Matunga

Matunga is a bustling settlement located between Dadar and Sion, in Mumbai. The region, some times referred to as ‘Mini Madras’ owing to its predominant South Indian population (especially Tamil Brahmins), is located about 2 km north of Dadar.

Matunga, since the late 19th century, has been the hub of education in Mumbai. Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) (then called Victoria Jubilee Technological Institute), Mumbai's first engineering college, Don Bosco High School, Guru Nanak Khalsa College and Ramnarain Ruia College of Arts and Science are located at Matunga.

Matunga is also home to many temples, churches and mosques. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated here amidst much pomp and splendor.

Matunga is served by both Western and Central Railways; Matunga Road Station is located on the Western line while Matunga Station is on the Central line leading to Kurla. The Harbour Line station of King Circle is also located in Matunga. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is around 13 km north of Matunga.
