Mattupetty Dam is a very beautiful picnic spot in
Idukki District. It is just a short distance from the Indo-Swiss Dairy Project at
Mattupetty, 13 km from
Munnar.
The dam is erected across a tributary of the Periyar River. The storage capacity of the reservoir is 1950 Mc Feet. District Tourism Promotional Council (DTPC) provides boating facilities in the dam site. High speed and slow speed motor boats are available on hire.
Lock Heart Gap known for its panoramic views, Kundala tea plantations and the Kundala lake are the nearby attractions. The nearest railheads are at Ernakulam and Kottayam.
