Mattiyaan Jodi

Mattiyaan Jodi is a wind instrument native to Punjab. It is also known as Algoza or Nagoza. It is a very old instrument, used in the ancient times by the shepherd.

Mattiyaan Jodi is made up of 2 flutes tied or held together. One flute produces the music, while the other flute gives the drone. The flutes are slightly wider at the bottom. They are painted and adorned with sequins, tassels and beads. They contain 7 holes each, spaced at equal intervals. The artist playing this instrument has to blow simultaneously in both the flutes, using 3 fingers on each flute for varying the tunes.
