Matrimandir is a famous meditation and spiritual center at
Auroville,
Pondicherry.
A modern architectural marvel, it is a large golden sphere, which seems to be rising out of the earth, symbolizing the birth of a new consciousness seeking to manifest. It holds the reputation of having the single largest glass crystal in the world. Matrimandir — the soul of Auroville — is also the center of the township.
Complete silence is observed inside. Entry is free; but the pass has to be obtained from the Visitor Center.
