Matia is one of the major tribal groups found in Malkangiri,
Balangir,
Dhenkanal and
Kalahandi districts of
Orissa. They are treated as an inferior group among other tribes in
Malkangiri District. The Matia lead a simple life; their main cultivations are tobacco, maize, and vegetables.
