Mathur Hanging Bridge, with a height of 115 ft and a length of one kilometer, is the tallest as well as the longest trough bridge in Asia. Built across the Parazhiyar River, it is situated at Mathur, a hamlet near
Aruvikkarai in
Kanyakumari District.
Pattanamkal Canal on the bridge carries water for irrigation from one side of a hill to the other side of a hill. This canal, shouldered by 28 huge pillars, was constructed as a drought relief measure and for the enhancement of agriculture in Vilavancode and Kalkulam taluks.
