Mathoor Bhagavathi Temple




Mathoor Bhagavathi Temple is a highly revered shrine situated 7 km towards Changanacherry from the National Highway 47, in Alappuzha District, Kerala. It is situated amid the lush greenery of paddy fields, just a kilometer south off the Alappuzha-Changanacherry Road between Pampa River in the east and Pookaitha River in the west. The temple is dedicated to Mathoor Bhagavathi, the family deity (kuladevatha) of Mathoor family.

The main festival is celebrated during the mandala masa (December). During this time there will be a 12-day festival which ends with Aarattu, on the 41st day of the mandala masa. Various art forms such as Kathakali and Velakali are performed during this period.

Alappuzha Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
