Andhra Pradesh. This dynasty was established by King Visakhavarman.
Other great rulers to succeed King Visakhavarman were Umavaraman and Saktivarman. King Saktivarman is considered the greatest ruler of the Mathara dynasty. During his reign the Mathara kingdom extended from the Mahanadi River in the north to the Krishna River in the south. The rule of the dynasty ended during the reign of King Ananta Saktivarman.
The reign of the Mathara dynasty is considered important in the history of Orissa. It was during this period that Vaishnavism gained popularity in the state.
