Pondicherry, Masthan Saheb Dargah is a tomb dedicated to Masthan Saheb Syed Dawood Buhari, a Sufi saint who came to Karaikal from Buhara two centuries ago. He is said to have possess spiritual powers.
Kandhuri, a 170-year-old festival, is celebrated here in commemoration of this saint annually. The festival begins with the hoisting of a flag on a pole, which is reminiscent of a ship. It generally falls in November, and lasts for 10 days. It is celebrated with great pomp.
