Masarh




Masarh Village, an ancient village treasuring a number of relics, is located at a distance of about 9 km west of Arrah town in Bhojpur District of Bihar. ‘Mahasara’ was the old name of the village, which means ‘large lake’. It is also renowned as Hieun Tsang's Mo-cho-so- la as Hieun Tsang visited this place.

The village is famous for a large tank. Dilapidated images of Brahmanic goddesses can be found here. A unique feature of the village is a Jain temple of Parasnath, which also houses an idol of Lord Shiva. The Jain temple is about sixty feet high and is rectangular in shape. Scattered images of many deities are found in this village. The village is linked both by rail and road. Karisath is the nearest railhead at a distance of about 3 km from Masarh. Bullock carts are the main means of transportation in the area.
