Maruni, one of the oldest and popular dances of the Nepalese, is conducted in connection with the festival of
Diwali. It is also performed on occasions such as marriages. Maruni dancers, richly dressed in colorful costumes and ornaments, go on a house to house visit during the celebration of Diwali. A nine instrument orchestra known as 'Naumati Baja' accompanies Maruni dances.
