Markanda is a tranquil residential locale situated on the left bank of the Vainganga River, in Chandrapur District of Maharashtra. It is about 47 km from Gadchiroli and 177 km from Nagpur.
The place derived its name from Saint Markandeya. Major point of attraction here is the Markanda Mahadeva Temple, a 12th century temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
