The Mariamman Temple is situated at Old Vathalagundu in
Dindigul,
Tamil Nadu. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Mariamman, an incarnation of
Shakti, the mother Goddess. Legends have it that, once a farmer got a carved stone statue of Goddess Mariamman. Realizing that it is divine, he built a temple to honor of the Goddess. The date of origin of this temple is unknown.
The temple has seven sacred sites. Offerings of banana and coconut are made by devotees. The annual festival here is famous.
Old Vathalagundu is a small village located on the way to Kodaikanal. The place is well connected by road and rail. Madurai is the nearest Airport, 45 km from Dindigul town.
