Maria Tribe is one among the subcastes of
Gond Tribe. About 230 villages of
Chhattisgarh are inhabited by the people of Maria tribe. They are mainly found in
Kanker District, following unhurried routines and customs. The Marias are mainly illiterate and they follow hunting and primitive farming for their livelihood.
In Maria Tribe, Gods are represented by two parallel placed logos of wood, lashed together with a rope made of bamboo skin and a third piece of wood secured between the woods, projecting above the other.
