Margazhi Festival is the season for dance and music in
Chennai. The festival, a cultural extravaganza, is celebrated during the latter half of December and early part of January. It was started in 1927, as an event to celebrate the founding of the Madras Music Academy in the month of December. The unique feature of this festival is that upcoming and young artists also get a chance to exhibit their talents. During the festival art lovers visit the city from all around the world.
