Manipur University, established in 1980, is a State University located at
Canchipur with the ruins of the old palace of Manipur in the background.
With its jurisdiction spread all over the state of Manipur, the university has three Schools of Studies consisting of 22 postgraduate departments including the Manipur Institute of Management studies. The three schools are School of Science, School of Social Science and School of Humanities.
Institute of Manipur Studies and Tribal Research was established with two distinct centers, namely, Centre for Manipur Studies and Centre for Tribal Studies.
