Manasha

Manasha is a local festival celebrated at Agamani in Dhubri District of Assam. It is also known as Bishohari and mainly involves snake worship. The festival consists of four forms namely, Marai, Mandus or Mandir, Bisahari and Ajankar.

Marai is the worship to the snake goddess (made of clay), which is mainly associated with marriage. Song, dance and dialogue played in the performance makes it more attractive. The second form is Mandus or Mandir, which is worship for wealth and honor besides to protect from snake bite. The other two are the Bisahari puja and Ajankar puja where a snake hood made of pith is worshipped.
