Manasa Ghat is a type of earthen vessel made in
West Bengal, more prominently in
Midnapore District. These vessels represent the serpent goddess. Manasa is a serpent Goddess and ‘Ghat’ means vase.
Manasa Ghat is constructed by using inverted jars on which the face of the serpent goddess is molded along with snake hoods. The number of snake hoods is always odd numbered varying from one to more than a hundred, arranged in ascending layers. These vessels are available in various sizes.
