Malleeswarar Koil

Malleeswarar Koil is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Mylapore. This is one of the seven sthalas of Lord Shiva in Mylapore, Chennai District. According to the puranas, one of the devotees of Lord Shiva was doing penance at this place which was full of Malligai (Jasmine). The god blessed him by giving darshan to him with his consort Maragathambal. Thus the name of the temple came to be known as Malleeswarar.

Belief is that if an unmarried person keeps at home the garlands exchanged between the God and the Goddess during the Kalyana Utsavam, it would bring wedlock. Jasmine garland offerings to Malleeswara on six consecutive Mondays is believed to grant any wish.
