Malayan Kettu, popular in
Kannur District, is usually performed for the sake of those women who have miscarriages and who are advised by the astrologers to have this ritual. Kalams are drawn using rice flour, charcoal powder and turmeric powder, under a decorated 'Pandal.' The pregnant woman sits in front of this Kalam. Then the performers in the costumes of deities like Raktheswari, Gulikan and Yakshi come and dance in front of the kalam.
