The Shiva Temple at
Malayam is located about 11 km from
Thiruvananthapuram, in
Kerala.
As the name indicates, the temple’s presiding deity is Lord Shiva. Besides, there are separate sanctums for Lord Ganesh, Goddess Bhagavathy and Lord Nagaraja - the serpent god.
A special ritual named Naranga Vilakku (oil lamps lit on lemons) is performed for Goddess Bhagavathy every Tuesday and Friday.
A major draw is the annual festival, which is celebrated with much pomp and splendor. It ends with the Ezhunnallathu ceremony. Also, a grand festival is held here during Mahashivaratri. Special prayers and pujas are performed on this occasion.
