Mairang is a major town in
West Khasi Hills District and is located about 30 km west of
Shillong.
It is famous for the historical monument built in memory of U Tirot Singh (Chief of Hima Nongkhlaw), who organized a war against the British to protect the territorial honesty of the Hynniewtrep people. Khasi tribe dominate the area. The place is also noted for its picturesque surroundings.
Nearest airport and railway station are at Guwahati.
