Mahendrappalli Temple




Mahendrappalli, a shaivite shrine, is situated at Koyiladippalayam, near Chidambaram, in Cuddalore District.

As per a local legend, Lord Shiva disclosed his cosmic dance to the saints here. This shrine is also said to have been worshipped by Gods such as Surya, Chandra, Indra and Brahma. Sundaramurthy Nayanar has mentioned this temple in his literary work.

The temple offers four worship services. Prominent of the festival celebrated here is Arudra Darshan, which falls during the Tamil month of Margazhi.

It is in close proximity to Aachaalpuram, near Kollidam, on the railroad between Chidambaram and Mayiladuthurai. Kollidam River is to the north of Mahendrappalli Temple.
