Mahadeva Temple




Mahadev Temple is a 12th century shrine, located in Itagi, about 15 km from Koppal and 20 km from Yelburga, in Koppal District of Karnataka. Acknowledged as the 'Emperor of Temples', Mahadeva Temple has been declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva in the form of Mahadev.

Mahadev Temple, built in Chalukyan style, is noted for its magnificence and decorative details. It is endowed with attractive friezes, erotic sculptures and exquisitely carved monuments. An added attraction is Puskarani Teertha, an open well which is still used by the villagers.

Hubli Airport is the nearest airport. Koppal Railway Station, managed by the South Western Railways, is the nearest major railhead.
