Mahadaji Shinde Umbrella

Mahadaji Shinde Umbrella is the memorial of the great Maratha nobleman Mahadji Shinde, situated at Wanawri village, about 5 km from Pune. Shinde Umbrella is also known as Shinde Chhatri, and a silver painted statue of Shinde has been erected here, wrapped in a flame-colored turban and elaborate shawl. The original prayer vessels used to propitiate the family deity each morning are kept at the foot of the statue. A sign there warns you not to open an umbrella within the Chhatri’s grounds, as it would be an insult to the warrior’s memory.
