Madras Institute of Development Studies was established in 1971 at Adyar,
Chennai. The prime objective of the institute is to conduct studies, research, seminars and conferences on development issues. Special emphasis is given to the agro-rural aspects of
Tamil Nadu and the socially and economically backward sections of the population all over the country. The institute offers a full-time Ph.D program and fellowships. Publication cell in the institute provides logistic support to the academic programs.
