Madras Boat Club (MBC), one of the oldest boat clubs in India, was started by a few Englishmen in the placid backwaters of Ennore in 1867. The club was relocated at R A Puram in
Chennai in 1892. It conducts inter-club and intra-club rowing or yacht races. The club holds the credit of being one of the founding members of the Amateur Rowing Association of the East (ARAE).
MBC conducts training and coaching in rowing. A complete set of boats and oars have been imported recently from the United States of America.
