Ma Bhadra Kali Temple, a famous Hindu pilgrimage center, is situated on the Jhansa Road, near
Sthanesar Mahadev Temple, in
Thanesar. The temple is dedicated to
Goddess Sati - the divine consort of
Lord Shiva.
According to legends, the lower limb of Sati’s corpse fell here while being carried by Lord Shiva to Mount Kailas. Hence, this shrine is considered one of the 51 shakthipitas in the country. It is believed that Pandavas worshipped the goddess and performed sacrifices for their victory in the great Kurukshetra war.
Built of red stone, the temple's inner sanctum enshrines the idol of Goddess Kali. Devotees offer terracotta horses at a well in the precincts. A major draw is here during Navratri. Devotees primarily visit this temple on Saturdays.
