The Lushai tribe of
Mizoram builds their house using bamboo and wood. The region being mostly of hilly nature, the houses are usually built on slopes. Wooden posts of different lengths are employed to provide the necessary support and balance. These posts are enforced with cross beams.
Frames constructed by fixing solid bamboo beams on the wooden posts form the base of the house. Bamboo mats placed over the frame serves as the floor. The walls are built by tying bamboo mats on the outer posts. The roofs are formed by constructing frames of solid and split bamboo and covering them with thatch or other leaves.
Instead of irons nails, cane is used for fastening the different parts. Some houses contain a ladder at the entrance. The doors and windows are made of bamboo matting, wooden planks or split bamboos. Rooms are formed by partitioning the rectangular house with bamboo mats or curtains.
