Lord Varadaraja Temple

Lord Varadaraja Temple is located at Arasarkoil and lies near Sri Vyagrapadeswarar Temple in Kanchipuram District. The temple is said to be older than the Kanchipuram Varadaraja Temple.

Legend says that Lord Brahma did penance sitting under the tree, praying to Lord Vishnu to appear before him. As such, the Lord appeared along with his consorts, Sridevi and Bhoodevi. Both the Moolavar (main deity) and the Utsavar idols (procession idols) are that of Varadaraja who holds a Prayoga Chakram in his right hand. The Goddess here is known as Perundevi Thayar.

The temple also has the deities of Andal, Chakkarathazhwar and a small idol of Lakshmi Narasimhar. There is also a vimana and mukhamandampam. The Sthalavriksham (holy tree) here is the peepul tree.
