Lepakshi Wall Painting




Lepakshi, a village situated in Anantapur District, is renowned for the paintings seen on the walls of its temples. These temples built during the 16th century by the rulers of the Vijaynagar Empire contain the finest paintings of Medieval India.

The paintings are mostly done on the inner ceilings and wall panels. The images are derived from the Puranas. Various scenes related to Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and other gods and goddess are portrayed. The colors used are bright red, green and yellow. These paintings also depict the life and customs of the people belonging to ancient times. A variety of costumes and hairstyle are portrayed, with emphasis on the patterns and designs of the cloths.
