Laru Kaj is a festival celebrated by the Gonds in
Mandla District. This festival is dedicated to Narayan. 'Laru' means bridegroom and 'Kaj' means 'solemn occasion'. It is considered to be the day of the pig’s ‘wedding’ in honor of the lord.
On this occasion a pig is offered for sacrifice. It is believed that a pig should be sacrificed at least once in 9 or 12 years by a family for its prosperity, health and happiness. This ceremony is an occasion for get together.
