Lanka Kand, related to
Vaishnavite cult, is a famous dance drama of
Manipur. It is taken from the epic,
Ramayana, and is the story of
Sri Ram, the incarnation of
Lord Vishnu. As the name indicates, Lanka Kand is the portrayal of abduction of
Sita by
Ravana (the king of Lanka), and the final retrieval of Sita by Sri Ram with the assistance of monkey warriors.
