Lamp Dance is a folk dance popular in the southern and central
Goa. It is a traditional dance performed exclusively by women. This dance form is a major attraction during the festive season of the
Shigmo.
The performers carry brass lamps on their head while they dance. Thus it got the name 'Lamp Dance'. Ghumat, samael, cymbal and harmonium are the main accompaniments of this dance.
Lamp Dance is played with slow rhythms to balance the lighted lamp on the head. The performers indulge in it with a beautiful footwork that matches with the tempo of the folk song.
