Lalla Yogeshwari was a women saint who lived in the
Kashmir Valley during the 14th century. She is known by a variety of names,like, Lalla, Lal Ded, and Lalleshwari. She Lalla Yogeshwari was born in a
Brahmin family near
Pampore. After a few years of an unhappy marriage, Lalla Yogeshwari left her husband in favor of spirituality.
She learned under both Hindu and Sufi (an Islamic tradition) teachers. Lalla Yogeshwari later became a preacher going all around the Kashmir Valley, singing songs on enlightenment and about Lord Shiva. She became an Avadhut (an advanced, realized being) and roamed naked.
Lalvakyani is the collection of poems by Lalla Yogeshwari. It has since been translated into many languages world wide.
