Lakulisha Temple, built in 972, is a less ornate temple situated within Eklingji temple complex, in
Udaipur District of
Rajasthan.
Eklingji is a small ancient town situated 22 km north of
Udaipur.
The temple has a pancha-ratha sanctum, a vestibule and a porch. The mandapam has pierced windows in its side edges. It is square in plan but the columns are laid out in an octagonal manner. The basement and the wall alcoves are plain except for two - one inset with an image of Goddess Saraswati and the other with an inscribed slab. At each angle of the octagonal arrangement of the hall, there are niches showing the image of goddess.
The structure over the mandap and the shrine are fast eroding. The temple enshrines the image of seated Lakulisha and the doorframe has two bands in which also Lakulisha is displayed as tutelary deity. There are five niches containing figures of various divinities such as Ganesh, Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu and Kartikeya.
Lakulisha Temple is easily accessible by road from Udaipur.
