Lakshmi Narasimha Perumal Temple

Lakshmi Narasimha Perumal Temple is in Narasingapuram of Tiruvallur District. A 500-year-old temple, it is a fine specimen of the Vijayanagar style of architecture with elegantly sculpted and carved pillars.

A huge tower welcomes the visitors. The temple has two entrances, one in the south and the other in the east. The presiding deity is Lakshmi Narasimhar with the Goddess sitting on his left lap. The Lord is 7 ft high. The Utsava idols (procession idols) of the Lord with Sridevi and Bhoodevi and the Goddess are kept in a sanctum sanctorum. The idol of Garudazhwar is in a rare posture, with his right leg kneeling offering respect to the main deity.

A separate shrine for Goddess Maragathavalli Thayar, whose idol is 5 ft high, is seen just to the right of the main shrine. There is an Utsava Mandapam, Mahamandapam and Artha Mandapam. The Utsava Mandapam has beautifully carved pillars. The Kalyana Mandapam, to the north of the main shrine in the outer Prakaram, contains many fine sculptures. The ceiling of the Mandapam has the images of dancing women and musical instruments. Some inscriptions dating back to the reign of the Cholas are also found in the temple.

Narasingapuram is 55 km from Chennai and 21 km from Arakkonam on the Chennai-Tandalam-Perambakkam Road.
