Lakhanganut is one the most attractive dances performed by
Tangkhul tribe in
Manipur. This dance is performed by virgin girls in their traditional costumes on an open ground selected by the elders. The men folk sit around the performers and sing. The villagers, especially the young men, judge the prettiest girl, who is honored by making her the hostess in the next youth festival. On this festival, a big feast is arranged at the residence of the most beautiful girl selected during the virgin dance. It is a big honor like the crowning of a beauty queen.
