Lai Haraopham Temple




Lai Haraopham Temple is an important place of worship situated in the heart of Andro, 27 km east of Imphal. The presiding deity is Lord Panam Ningthou, the guardian of Andro Village. The temple has a sacred fire place. It contains an eternal fire which has had been kept continually burning for centuries and cannot be put out. The villagers say that the dying of the sacred fire would mean the death of the Universe. An inscribed stone, dated to 1822, is also kept in the temple complex. It carries the royal edict of Maharaj Jai Singh of Manipur. The temple site, covering an area of around 5,299 sq m, comes under the provisions of Manipur Ancient and Historical Monument and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1976.
