Lahoo Dance, originally known as Chipiah, is a traditional dance performed by the
Jaintia tribe of
Meghalaya. Both men and women, attired in best finery, hold their arms together and dance in step. Usually, a woman is placed in the middle of two men.
In place of the usual drum and pipe, a cheer leader extemporarily recites couplet to enchant the audience. The dance is performed in gratitude for God's blessings and his bounty.
