Ladakh are conservative and traditional and their life style is much the same as it was 2000 years ago. They have a rich folk lore, remarkable for its songs and legends, some dating back to the pre-Buddhist era.
The folk songs of Ladakh are simple in thought and diction. The songs range from beautiful ditties to coarse and uncouth songs.
The ballads of Ladakh have a local coloring while the folk-tales are quite similar to its northern counterparts. The proverbs of the region convey the wisdom of the ages and are native in their diction.
