Kwatha is the only village in
Chandel District, with a population comprising scheduled castes. The villagers here are regarded as the ancestors of Meities. The villagers still practice old religion and ancient system of medicine. The village has a deposit of chromite mineral of steel gray, nickeliferous magnetite, copper and cobalt.
Kwatha is located close to Moreh, a border town and international trade center of Manipur. Moreh is 110 km from Imphal.
