Kunnathukal village is located in
Thiruvananthapuram District, about 40 km from
Thiruvananthapuram. It is located at the border of
Tamil Nadu. This village is accessible by motorable roads. The nearest town Parassala is 5 km away. The first allopathic hospital was set up here by Christian missionaries in 1894 and continues to function as the major private hospital in the vicinity. A dispensary was inaugurated by the government in the early 1930s in the village and it was upgraded to Primary Health Center in 1980.
Agriculture is the major occupation of the people. A large number of men and women work as daily-wage laborers in the plantations. Some families also engage in animal husbandry and livestock farming. The literacy rate in the region is high at 90%. The first vernacular school was established in the village more than 80 years ago. There are 10 government and private schools in the village.
