Kundeshwara Temple




Kundeshwara Temple is one of the main temples in Kundapura of Udupi District. Kundapura taluk and the city got its name from this temple, built by Kundavarma. This temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is in the vicinity of the Panchagangavali River. The main deity enshrined in the black stone garbhagriha is a 4 ft high shivling. Only 1/3rd of it is visible because 1/3rd is kept on the pedestal and the rest is under the earth. The other deities enshrined in the temple are Lord Ganesh and Parvati. The main festival of the temple is the 'Kundeshwara Deepotsava.' Located 36 km from Udupi, Kundapura is a small town situated along the coastal belt of the Arabian Sea. Kundapura Railway Station on Konkan Railways is the nearest railhead.
