Kulasekharapuram Sree Krishna Temple is a fascinating religious spot situated near Methala village, south of
Kodungallur, in
Thrissur District of
Kerala. Lord
Krishna is the main deity of this temple. This ancient temple, believed to be constructed around AD 800, was built by Kulasekara Alwar, the famous saint and poet.
Kulasekharapuram Sree Krishna is the family deity of the Kodungallur Royal Dynasty. A Garuda idol is seen opposite the sanctum sanctorum, facing the main deity,
Lord Krishna.
Separate niches are earmarked for the deities of Sesha, Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva, Nandagopar, Vasudevar, Mohini, Parthasarathy and Lord Parashuram.
The shrine holds innumerable inscriptions which chronicle its fascinating history. The splendid art and architecture of this exquisite temple is of arresting excellence. The temple had been harmed in foreign attacks, but the idols have remained intact.
