Kuchipudi dance, a classical performing art style of
Andhra Pradesh, is known for its grace and beauty. It is marked by its bright and shining costumes. The colors are traditionally red, yellow and green, while some dancers experiment with brown, pink and mauve colors as well. The costume is a tight-fitting dress which is sewn from a single silk
saree with borders on both sides. There is a cross fleet containing border between the legs. A piece of cloth on the back and a small pleated fan on the side distinguishes this costume from that used in
Bharatanatyam. The 'pallu' or the falling edge of the saree goes round the waist and is draped over the left shoulder. A half-saree with a pleated front is also worn by some dancers.
