Born in 1898 in
Assam, Krishnakanta Handique was a renowned orientalist and littérateur. He has to his credit a substantial number of literary works, prominent being the translation of Shriharsha's Naisadh Charitara and Setu Bandhan into English.
Krishnakanta Handique was the first principal of Jagannath Barua College and the first vice-chancellor of Gauhati University. Besides, he held the position of the president of Assam Sahitya Sabha in 1937. Gauhati University was renamed K K Library after his death in 1982.
