Krishnaaranya Temple

Krishnaaranya Kshetram (Temple) is situated at Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. The temple is about 3 km from Keevalur railway station. The temple is around 2 km from the Aazhiyur bus stop, on the Naagapatinam-Keevalur route.

The deity of the temple is Lord Loganathan. The deity is also known by the name Shayamala Meni perumal. The idol of the deity is shown in an upright position facing east.

According to legends, Sage Vashista made a idol of Lord Krishna from butter. Since the idol was made with sincere devotion, the butter did not melt. To test the sage’s devotion, Lord Krishna took the form of a boy and ate some butter from the idol. Angered by the boy’s prank, Sage Vashista chased him and tied him to a tree. Lord Krishna appeared in his original form and blessed the sage. It is believed that the holy tree situated behind the temple is the same tree to which Lord Krishna was tied. It is said that the tree has been blessed with eternal life.
