Koya Dance is performed mainly by the Koya tribes of
Orissa and
Andhra Pradesh. It is performed during the worship of the mother goddess in the month of Chaitra (April and May). Usually, both boys and girls take part in this dance but the girls are more prominent. About 30 to 40 persons participate in the dance. The girls engage in beating sticks on the ground, which are fitted with small bells. They form complicated zigzag and unwinding circles and it is the most attractive part of the dance.
