Koviloor Temple




Koviloor Temple is an ancient temple located in Sivagangai District. The temple was built by Veerasekara Pandiyan, a Pandya king, thousand years ago. It has a rajagopuram with many sculptures. The deity of the temple is Kotravaleeswarar (Raja Katka Parameshwar.) Legend tells us that once when King Veerasekaran was on his hunting at this place he lost his sword and later recovered it. So he ordered to construct a temple here. The temple has a tank with a central Mandapam called Madhu Puskarani.

The temple can be accessed by a journey of 2 km from Karaikudi.
